13th international contemporary book fair

Summer Stitch,
13th International Contemporary Book Fair,
20 editions,
March 2010.

I designed and made 20 hot dog fold books for this book fair. My inspiration was the colour red. I developed this further to have a summer and stitched approach to it. Again, over the summer I am hoping to develp this further and experiment with stitching design.

Don't Panic

Don't Panic: Vogue,
Poster Design,
March 2010.

Don't Panic send out little brown envelopes crammed full of coll stuff aimed at student and each edition has a poster in it designed by aspiring artists, designer and illustrators etc. This live brief gave me the chance to enter for the Vogue edition. Not too keen on what I produced... but I am happy that I experimented with hand crafted type and an illustration feel.

Collection 100

I created a stop motion animation of 100 marbles... I hope to go back to this over the summer and gets it perfect as it needs some work and a few sequences editing... Check it out!

What if...?

What If...
Graffiti Stencil Design 02

What if a group of Graphic Design students got together to try and solve a problem. Another group project where through research we found that homelessness was a problem... A sector of this was healthcare for the homeless. We designed and created this graffiti to point rough sleepers to free healthcare.

No News is Good News,
Pull out Mailshot in Action.

I had done a weeks worth of research into a newspaper story on Pavlopetri, a real underwater city which may have been the inspiration for Atlantis. From this research, I created 3 posters (1 image, 1 type and 1 type and image) and a mailshot. The mailshot was to be posted to head teachers at primary schools to try and get them to teach the kids more about our underwater world.

Alphabet soup

Compress - I had to create a series of 10 letterforms to communicate and explore this word based on the manipulation of an existing typeface. I chose to manipulate Poplar Std/Black.

Ross Allman - I had to further create a typeface for one of my classmates. This also had to be based on an existing typeface and I interviewed my partner Ross to get an understanding of his personality/character and references. I manipulated Arial Black but think I lost the plot when it came to colour!

How to...

How to... live with people who you don't like. In September 08, my first course project was a group project in which we found out that trying to make the situation better, rather that resolving the issue was a more effective approach.

Alphabet: Hazel

Over the Summer in 2009 I had to create an alphabet to represent myself for the start of my Graphic Design degree at Leeds College of Art. I wanted to use 3D effect and had learned a bit about this at Jigsaw. Each letter stood for something particular to me.

Letterform D from my summer alphabet.
